A Raydiance Case Study
Nitinol stent manufacturing typically comprises using a thermal laser to machine intricate designs in tiny Nitinol cylinders. The thermal nature of the process introduces recast and other heat affected zones (HAZ), all of which must be removed with costly, labor-intensive post processing steps. Hazardous chemicals are often used to complete the processing.
Raydiance recently demonstrated the power its new product line, Smart Light MD™, by deploying it in a fully integrated stent workstation. Stents were machined in a one-step process then dropped into a final ultrasonic bath of IPA. Multiple steps of deburring and clean-up of HAZ were eliminated. The breakthrough process increases yield, reduces cost, and eliminates involved post-processing with chemicals.
Smart Light MD™ enables true athermal ablation in fully automated and integrated workstation environments. This capability will dramatically impact the future manufacturing of not only stents, but other medical micro-device applications such as drug delivery systems, guide wires, valves and needles.
