Pulse Width and Athermal Ablation
Our Applications Lab engineers looked at the ablation rate of Nitinol as a function of pulse width. What they found was that the time to machine a stock Nitinol tube decreased steadily as pulse width was decreased, from 12 ps down to about 2.5 ps, not coincidentally the approximate point of transition from a thermal to an athermal process.
